I borrowed this book from Hoopla. I grabbed it because the cover looked adorable and I wanted a book that would be quick to finish – which graphic novels are usually a safe bet.
This is a cute, beautifully drawn LGBT fantasy graphic novel. The main characters were mythical creatures with human features. For example, the main character is mainly human but changes into a werewolf. The best friend is a centaur. There are many other mythical creatures that you meet throughout the story with different traits and personalities that were well done.
It was fun and whimsical and reminded me of a Scooby Doo mystery. There’s also a few pages shown of the main character’s favourite series (although not favourite book) that reminded me of Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys.
The art style was fun and whimsical, which fit perfectly around the story. The characters were drawn with fun details and shown with a lot of expression.
I absolutely loved this book. It was a joy to read and quick to be through. The downside was I found some characters would change moods out of no where – which I’m assuming has to do with their mythical creature element, but it still broke from the mood of the sgory. I also felt it could have been fleshed out a little more – at times it felt too simple and some scenarios were too convenient.
Can’t wait for the next set.
