Down the TBR Hole #1

WITH A

After reading every other blogger working on their Goodreads TBR pile thanks to the meme Down the TBR Pile by Lost in a Story, I’ve decided to start it myself.  Trust me this TBR pile is getting out of hand, and I couldn’t tell you what is on it!

How it works:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Pretty simple.  I will try to tackle about 10-15 books a week every Sunday.  At the moment my TBR piles on Goodreads sits at 2288. WOW!! That’s impossible! Well may as well get started.

2657Book 1: To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee

I added this book when I first joined Goodreads (as many of the next few books) because I felt I needed to read all the books I was suppose to read in high school.  But I’m still interested in it, at the moment, it just might have to wait a couple more years (just look at my TBR number lol).

Decision: Keep

5107Book 2: The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Sallinger

Another book I added just to catch up on my “should have read in high school” pile.  With it being on so many challenged lists and the “reason” someone went crazy, why wouldn’t I still want to read it?  But at the same time, am I only interested in it because I “should have” read it?

Decision:  Keep

4671Book 3: The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald

I want to give this one an honest try.  Glitz and glamour is too intriguing.

Decision: Keep

865Book 4: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Journey, wisdom, fantasy! Plus a short read – another book to pick up.  *Sigh* sooo much to read!

Decision: Keep

320Book 5: One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

The synopsis on this one is very vague and not interesting sounding.  It talks about magical realism, which I tend to like, but almost 500 pages right now sounds daunting!  I own this one and will put it aside for now.

Decision: Remove

1934Book 6: Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Ugh, this may sound bad, but maybe I’ll just watch the movie.

Decision: Remove

1381Book 7: The Odyssey by Homer

Ok so this is another classic put on the list just because it feels like it should be so…

Decision: Remove

7126Book 8: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

See above reasoning.

Decision: Remove

2187Book 9: Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides

A story about that follows a “not so typical” girl named Callie in a prohibition era.  It still sounds interesting, just the size is scary.

Decision: Keep

7244Book 10: The Poisonwood Bible by Barbar Kingsolver

Another classic I’ve lost interest with.

Decision: Remove

Totals

Keep: 5
Remove: 5

Percentage Removed 50%

What do you think of my choices so far?
